What Are 'The Rocks'
The Rocks District of Milton Freewater is an AVA nested inside the Walla Walla Valley AVA. "The Rocks" was officially granted approval by the TTB in 2015. It is less than 6 square miles and home to some of the best vineyards in the world.
What Does It Do To The Vines?
These rocks hold onto solar heat and radiate that heat back up to the fruit zone and also to the rootzone. This allows for even ripening.
Ultimatley, this is a very stressful place for vines to grow. When vines are stressed, they produce fantastic fruit.

Where did these rocks come from?
The Rocks area was formed thousands of years ago as the Walla Walla river flowed through a corridor in the Blue Mountains. At the town of Milton Freewater, the river lost its velocity and dumped all the stones it was carrying.
